Abstract

This study investigates the dialectical relationship between human narrative creativity and AI-generated narrative production, with a particular focus on the reception of digital literature. It adopts a descriptive-analytical methodology, employing a comparative analysis between a classical human-authored novel, The Struggle of Thebes by Naguib Mahfouz, and an AI-generated narrative text entitled Sons of the Sands. In addition, an electronic questionnaire was administered to a sample of 132 readers and specialists.

The study seeks to identify the fundamental differences in narrative structures and aesthetic features between human and machine-generated texts, as well as to explore societal attitudes toward automated literary production. The findings reveal that artificial intelligence is capable of producing linguistically coherent narratives that emulate conventional storytelling patterns; however, it remains unable to fully represent the existential depth, psychological complexity, and cultural specificity that characterize human creative expression. The questionnaire results indicate that a majority of participants expressed doubts regarding the ability of AI-generated texts to convey profound emotions (48.5%), while 62.9% perceived such texts as lacking “soul” or authentic human experience.

The study concludes that although artificial intelligence functions as an advanced generative and analytical tool, the core of narrative creativity—centered on meaning-making and the exploration of human consciousness—continues to be intrinsically linked to the conscious human mind.
