The Journal of Arts and Humanities (TUAHJ) is a peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal published by the Faculty of Arts, Taiz University, Republic of Yemen. The Journal aims to publish original and innovative scholarly research in the fields of arts, humanities, social sciences, and education. It is committed to implementing international best practices in scholarly publishing through a rigorous double-blind peer-review system and editorial and ethical policies aligned with internationally recognized principles of academic publishing.
The Journal was established in 2011 under the title “Journal of the Faculty of Arts – A Peer-Reviewed Annual Journal.” Five consecutive issues were published until 2015. Publication was subsequently suspended due to the exceptional circumstances experienced by the Republic of Yemen during the years of conflict, as was the case with many academic and research institutions. As part of Taiz University's efforts to restore its academic activities and strengthen its role in supporting scientific research, the Journal has been relaunched with a new identity and a modern electronic platform. Its editorial policies and digital infrastructure have also been developed in line with international standards for electronic scholarly publishing.
The Journal seeks to serve as a trusted academic platform for researchers both within Yemen and internationally and to contribute to the advancement of knowledge through the publication of research characterized by originality, methodological rigor, and innovation. It welcomes studies addressing intellectual, cultural, social, and educational issues of scholarly and societal significance. The Journal also encourages interdisciplinary research that promotes integration across the humanities and social sciences and contributes to developing evidence-based responses to contemporary challenges.
The Journal accepts manuscripts written in Arabic and English, provided that they are original, have not been previously published, and are not under consideration for publication elsewhere. All submissions must comply with the Journal's requirements regarding research ethics and the quality of academic writing. Each manuscript undergoes an initial editorial assessment, followed by a double-blind peer-review process conducted by subject specialists to ensure the quality, objectivity, and academic integrity of published research, as well as the independence of editorial decisions.
The Journal is published semi-annually, with the possibility of issuing special issues when justified by academic needs and approved by the Editorial Board. It is available in both print and electronic formats and carries the following International Standard Serial Numbers: ISSN 3006-7561 (Print) and ISSN 3006-757X (Online).
The Journal follows an Open Access policy based on the belief that scholarly knowledge should be freely accessible to researchers and interested readers without financial or technical barriers. It seeks to expand the visibility and dissemination of its publications through the continuous development of its digital infrastructure, the adoption of international metadata standards, and integration with digital identification, indexing, and archiving services. The Journal also works continuously toward inclusion in relevant regional and international scholarly databases and indexing services, subject to meeting the requirements and eligibility criteria of each indexing body.
The Journal is committed to the principles of transparency, academic integrity, editorial independence, and fairness in peer review. It operates under clear policies governing publication ethics, conflicts of interest, copyright, privacy protection, the use of artificial intelligence, and digital preservation. These policies are intended to strengthen the confidence of researchers and academic institutions in the quality, integrity, and reliability of the Journal's published content.
The Journal of Arts and Humanities aspires to become a leading scholarly journal at the national, regional, and international levels. It aims to contribute to improving the quality of research in the humanities and social sciences and to strengthening the international visibility of Arab scholarly output. Through these efforts, the Journal supports Taiz University's mission to advance scientific research, serve society, and contribute to sustainable development.
