Abstract

This research examines issues of names and rulings among contemporary Ibadis. Names refer to the religious names by which a person is called in this world: believer, disbeliever، sinner، disobedient, hypocrite. Rulings refer to the judgments passed upon a person in the Hereafter: whether they will be in Paradise, eternally in Hell, or not eternally in Hell.

These issues stem from the disagreement regarding the definition and reality of faith, and the definition and reality of disbelief. Everyone who has a position on faith will ultimately conclude their discussion with a ruling on the person's fate in the Hereafter and their designation in this world. The difference between the Ibadis and the Salaf regarding faith is that the Ibadis ruled that those who commit major sins are disbelievers, ungrateful for God's blessings, and hypocrites, and that they will be eternally in Hell with all other disbelievers.

The importance of this study is evident in its examination of issues of names and rulings, its explanation of the Ibadi position on those who disagree, and the true nature of names and rulings among contemporary Ibadis.

The nature of the research necessitated that the researcher adopt a descriptive analytical approach in studying issues of names and rulings among contemporary Ibadis. The study comprises four sections, preceded by an introduction, followed by a conclusion, and then indexes
